Additional Information
Academic Background
I received my BS in Marine Biology from California State University, Long Beach along with a chemistry minor. I worked as a research assistant in the field of Marine Biology under Dr. Charles Galt. I received my teaching credential in chemistry also from CSULB and earned the Distinguished Student Teacher honors for Spring 2007. I had the opportunity to be involved with AirUCI's 2 week intensive teacher program in Environmental Chemistry last summer.
Family
I have one older brother who is an amazing musician and current pets are just my turtles, Myrtle and Squirtle and my ball python, Monty. One day, time permitting, I'm looking to add a puppy to the mix...
Why did you become a teacher?
I had an incredible relationship with my father growing up. Wherever we would go, he was always dispensing little factoids along the way. Further, he strongly encouraged me that I could learn anything I wanted and could be anything I wanted. I have had a passion since gradeschool for passing along that same sense of self because I feel that it has opened up the world for me...
Years teaching?
I taught reading to first and second graders when I was in fifth and sixth grade... that's when it started! I also taught swimming for eleven years to adults and children (and even babies!) through my high school and college years. I taught Marine Biology through the Cabrillo Marine Museum for 2 years before finally landing in the traditional high school classroom back in September of 2005.
Personal Comments/Quotes
"No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into account not only the world as it is, but the world as it will be" ~ Isaac Asimov, Scientist & Writer (1920-1992)
